For me, joining Schnader was a lifestyle choice that had everything to do with the firm's culture. When I sought out a law firm position for the summer after my second year in law school, I was in search of challenging legal issues and colleagues who would support my interests in practicing art law and in representing nonprofit organizations. As a summer associate, I was given the opportunity to work on several matters related to my interest in these areas of the law. These opportunities were a primary reason that I returned. Even upon joining the firm as an associate, Schnader has continued to encourage me to practice law in these areas. On my first week as an associate at Schnader, I worked with Ralph Wellington, the firm's chairman, on an artist's rights case relating to a mural art project. Anticipating my arrival, another partner took the time to bring my attention to a new arrival on the firm's library shelves: a treatise on museum governance. A small gesture, but meaningful. I have built my practice in these areas and that practice has grown over the last three years. Above all, Schnader's attorneys seem to understand that the practice of law is a profession--not simply a business--and the firm strives to create a collegial work environment that encourages associates to take leadership roles in the firm, to refine our legal skills, and to make positive contributions in our communities so that we may better serve our clients.
