Background
I came to Schnader in June 2006 as a lateral hire in the Intellectual Property Practice Group. Before coming to Schnader, I had been practicing for ten years, mostly in small firms. I chose Schnader because I hoped to work with highly competent lawyers in a positive and respectful environment.

Working at Schnader
My experience at Schnader has been as positive as I hoped it would be. I am happy with the work that I am doing, and I am impressed with the skills of my colleagues, from the senior partners to the newest associates.

The firm has a culture of appreciation and respect. The firm of course expects the highest quality work product, but the expected excellent work is greeted with positive feedback, not the silent belief that excellence is what the firm is paying for. The firm encourages me to develop clients and to manage my career. The firm seems to view me as a person to be developed and encouraged, not as a resource to be consumed.

Transition to Schnader
Although starting a new job is always stressful, Schnader smoothed the transition by communicating both the firm’s expectations and the substantial capabilities of its support staff. I had the feeling that a small army stood ready to support me in getting my work done. After a year on the job, I still have that feeling.

In my short time at Schnader, I have worked with attorneys from every Schnader office. Soon after I arrived at Schnader, I began working on a significant patent-infringement case with attorneys from the New York office. The New York office, like my home office in Philadelphia, made me feel welcome right away.
