Statement of Albert Momjian, Honorary Consul for the Philadelphia Region for the Republic of Haiti

January 13, 2010 – Philadelphia, PA: In light of the devastating and tragic earthquake experienced in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on January 12, Albert Momjian, the Honorary Consul for the Philadelphia Region to the Republic of Haiti, expresses his deepest sympathies, concern and support for the citizens of Haiti and for the families and friends of those whose lives have been affected by this catastrophic event.

“In this critical, desperate time, I would like to offer my sincere prayers, heartfelt condolences and absolute support for the citizens, friends and family who have been touched by this disaster, both in Haiti and in the Philadelphia region. In my time as Honorary Consul to the Republic of Haiti, I have come to appreciate and love both the generosity of spirit that is embodied by the Haitian people and the beauty and character of the Haitian culture. I strongly urge everyone to pledge whatever support they can to an approved aid organization to the people of Haiti during this awful, tragic time.”

Mr. Momjian has served as the Honorary Consul for the Philadelphia region for the Consulate of Haiti since 1978. He also serves as Chair of the Firm’s Family Law Department. A nationally renowned family law attorney regarded as the dean of the Pennsylvania family law bar, his practice encompasses complex cases involving divorce and domestic relations. In his capacity as Haitian Consul, Mr. Momjian spearheaded a significant donation of hospital equipment and supplies by the Haitian Coalition of Philadelphia to needy public hospitals in Haiti. He also has organized the annual “Haitian Night at the Sixers” so that local Haitian children can attend a professional basketball game and meet Philadelphia 76ers center, Samuel Dalembert, the “Haitian Sensation.”
