Mr. Armstrong is managing partner of the Cherry Hill office. Active as a trial and appellate litigator throughout his career, he focuses on all aspects of environmental litigation, with emphasis on CERCLA and New Jersey’s Spill Act. He is also experienced in handling civil litigation, including toxic tort, personal injury and commercial litigation. Before joining Schnader, Mr. Armstrong was a deputy attorney general for the state of New Jersey.
AREAS OF EXPERIENCE
Environmental Counseling
Mr. Armstrong has also provided counseling to manufacturing and transportation companies on numerous environmental issues related to those businesses’ operations.
Previous Environmental Experience
As a New Jersey deputy attorney general, Mr. Armstrong was assigned to the Hazardous Site Litigation Section, where he represented the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) in many complex actions, and provided counseling to the DEP on environmental issues.
Previous Civil Litigation Experience
Before representing DEP, Mr. Armstrong spent several years in the Office of the Attorney General’s Tort Litigation Section, defending government agencies in personal injury, toxic tort and civil rights actions brought against them in both state and federal court.
Environmental and Toxic Tort Litigation
His experience includes trying Gould, Inc. v. A & M Battery & Tire Service, et al., a massive CERCLA contribution action in the Middle District of Pennsylvania against more than 40 defendants and American Cyanamid, et al. v. A. Capuano Bros., et al., a CERCLA contribution action against the owners and operators of a Superfund site.
Mr. Armstrong has also defended a major oil company in several environmental and toxic tort claims in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and has defended chemical companies in toxic tort actions. He has also defended companies in natural resource damages cases.
