A Motion by any Other Name...

Most appeals in federal court must be taken within 30 days of entry of a final judgment. Certain post-judgment motions can delay the running of the 30-day period, but a recent Ninth Circuit decision reminds practitioners that simply labeling a filing as one of those types of motions will not delay the 30-day appeal period if the motion really is something else.
