A litigator with over 30 years of experience, Ms. Rowan focuses her practice on the defense of railroads, self-insured corporations and insurance companies. She defends railroads in personal injury and wrongful death/survival actions, including FELA cases, in federal and state courts. She also defends self-insured corporations and insurance companies in personal injury and breach of contract cases.

A member of the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel (NARTC), Ms. Rowan regularly teaches at the NARTC Trial College. She also frequently speaks at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, Southeastern Claims Conferences, and NARTC conferences.

  • On behalf of railroads, has handled hundreds of cases under the FELA. Cases have involved various types of accidents resulting in injuries to employees. The injuries have ranged from soft-tissue injuries to dismemberments and death.
  • Represented railroads in grade crossing accident cases; litigated claims of alleged signal malfunction and inadequate warnings.
  • Defended railroads in common law negligence, property damage, and personal injury cases.
  • Litigated trespasser fatality cases. Developed theories regarding the impact of the Pennsylvania Railroad Civil Immunity Act on the permissive crossing doctrine in Pennsylvania.
  • Responded to and directed serious accident investigations.
  • Extensive knowledge of the state and federal court systems; familiar with judges in the state and federal court systems.
