Alice Sacks Johnston and Jay Evans Join Schnader’s Pittsburgh Office

PITTSBURGH – Schnader is pleased to announce that Alice Sacks Johnston and Jay Evans have joined the firm’s Pittsburgh office and will serve as members of the Litigation Department and Product Liability Practice Group.

“Alice and Jay’s extensive experience in complex litigation adds additional breadth and depth to the firm’s already strong defense team,” said Pittsburgh office Managing Partner George McGrann. “These well-practiced trial attorneys will support several of the firm’s practice groups and serve our clients across multiple industries.” 

Ms. Johnston represents clients in a range of complex litigation matters. These matters include construction and real estate; securities; oil/gas/mineral and pipeline; contract disputes; mass torts and toxic torts; pharmaceutical and medical devices; product liability; and statewide occupational safety and healthcare cases (OSHA). Her experience includes serving as national, regional, and local counsel to automakers, heavy equipment manufacturers and others in asbestos cases and representing pharmaceutical clients in mass tort proceedings at the state and federal levels. Additionally, she has litigated claims related to trademark infringement, restrictive covenants, RICO, fraud, and other business-related litigation.

Mr. Evans’ litigation practice encompasses a wide array of litigation, litigation avoidance and appellate matters. He regularly counsels clients on complex issues including securities, insurance, contracts, nonprofit governance, tax exemption, real estate, trade secrets and restrictive covenants, antitrust and trade regulation, and other business disputes. His work includes serving as counsel for companies, particularly automotive and vehicle equipment manufacturers, facing significant litigation matters in the realm of product liability and toxic torts. Mr. Evans has represented companies in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and across the United States in complex asbestos-related cases. In his representations, he has handled all aspects of preparing for and litigating various matters, from pleadings and depositions to Frye/Daubert challenges and through the appeals process.

Both Ms. Johnston and Mr. Evans are active in their communities. Ms. Johnston is a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts, and chairs the Board of Directors of Venture Outdoors, Inc., and is a board member of Hidden Valley Foundation, Inc. Mr. Evans is an improv house team member at the Arcade Comedy Theater, is a member of the North Way Christian Community East End Campus, and serves on the Board of Directors for North Hills Community Outreach.

Ms. Johnston received her J.D. from Washington & Lee University in 1986 and her B.A. from Franklin & Marshall College in 1983. Mr. Evans received his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame in 1998. He received his A.B., cum laude from Harvard College in 1995.
