Barry Bressler Quoted in Newsworks Article
On November 1, 2016 by Schnader in NewsCounsel Barry Bressler was quoted in “Democrats Modify Attack Ad in Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senate Race,” published on WHYY’s Newsworks.org on October 26, 2016. The article discussed an advertisement attacking U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa) because he was part owner of a bank that used confessions of judgment to collect on commercial loans. This provision of the law allows creditors to obtain judgment against delinquent commercial borrowers without a hearing, but does permit borrowers to file a petition to open or strike the judgment and request a hearing. However, Mr. Bressler explained how the use of confessions of judgment has been restricted by the courts over the years.
