Dennis R. Suplee Elected President of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers

April 30, 2009 – Philadelphia, PA: Dennis R. Suplee, former chairman of Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP was elected President of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers by its Board of Directors at the organization’s annual meeting in Atlanta, Georgia on April 25, 2009.

Chartered in 1954, the Academy’s purposes are to promote reforms in the law, improve the administration of justice and elevate the standards of integrity, honor and courtesy in the legal profession. Active Academy membership is limited to 500 Fellows from the United States. In addition, the Academy includes more than 95 Fellows from more than 30 other countries. Fellows are engaged in civil and criminal trial practice on both sides of the Bar. Admission to Fellowship is by invitation only to lawyers found to possess exceptional skill in trial and appellate practice, who exhibit unimpeachable personal and professional character, and who have promoted the best interests of the legal profession and the highest standards and techniques of advocacy.

Mr. Suplee has handled a wide range of civil litigation throughout his notable career, including mass tort cases, complex business disputes, antitrust litigation, CERCLA contribution cases, insurance coverage actions, patent and trademark infringement disputes, international air rights, and product liability cases.

In addition to being a Fellow and President of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, Mr. Suplee is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, for which he served as Regent (for Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware) from 2001 to 2005. He was named the 2009 Philadelphia Lawyer of the Year for “Bet-the-Company” Litigation by The Best Lawyers in America, and is also listed among the Lawdragon 500 and in Chambers’ America’s Leading Business Lawyers (for Commercial Litigation), The International Who’s Who of Commercial Litigators, and Who’s Who Legal: USA-Commercial Litigation. He is coauthor of The Deposition Handbook (Aspen 2002), now in its Fourth Edition, and a number of articles on pretrial and trial practice.

Mr. Suplee serves on the Boards of Saint Joseph’s University (Philadelphia, PA), his alma mater, and the Supreme Court Historical Society, among others.
