Denny Shupe Featured in For The Defense for his Work with the “New Leash on Life” Program

On September 15, 2010 by Schnader in Litigation

J. Denny Shupe, a member of Schnader’s Executive Committee and immediate past chair of the Firm’s Litigation Services Department, was featured in the article “DRI Member Making a Difference Through “New Leash on Life” Program,” published in For The Defense, the national monthly magazine for DRI.

The article detailed Mr. Shupe’s work with “New Leash on Life,” a Pennsylvania nonprofit committed to establishing a lasting, “new generation,” inmate dog-training program. Supported by a professional team with impressive credentials in medical sociology and clinical and educational psychology, the program brings inmates together with abandoned dogs. The inmates train and socialize the animals to enhance their adoptability. The program – which involves a comprehensive training curriculum and supportive supervision by the team – allows the participants to build social and job skills to improve successful reentry into the community after they have served their prison terms. The program also offers scholarships to qualified parolees so that they can continue to pursue further animal care training and education once they reenter society.
