New York City – Schnader is pleased to announce that W. Drew Kastner has joined the firm’s New York office as partner. Mr. Kastner is a member of the Business Services Department and Intellectual Property Group.

“Drew’s extensive trademark and copyright prosecution, licensing and litigation experience is an excellent complement to our firm wide IP practice,” said New York office Managing Partner Chris Carty. “Our office is especially pleased to add a trademark and copyright partner to expand the locations at which we have IP partners.”

Mr. Kastner’s practice includes handling trademark and copyright licensing and general intellectual property matters. He draws on his previous experience as president of the trademark licensing division of an intellectual property advisory and transactions firm to provide first-hand understanding of the complexities of intellectual property law. His intellectual property background is complemented by significant experience in litigation and technology from the dual perspectives of in-house and outside counsel.

“Drew brings his extensive brand development and protection experience to clients in a variety of industries,” said Schnader Intellectual Property Group Co-Chair Joan Kluger. “He is particularly well-positioned to extend his services to clients in the New York City and Philadelphia areas but will support Schnader’s trademark practice in all offices.”

Mr. Kastner manages diverse intellectual property portfolios for Fortune 500 companies, and provides his clients with counsel on matters ranging from applications to litigation. He currently serves as chief IP and licensing counsel to the Mickey Mantle Family. He regularly assists clients in the sports, entertainment, broadcasting, technology, and communications industries, and has served as senior IP counsel for large technology and broadcast corporations, namely, the NBC Television Network and Lucent/Bell Labs Technologies.

His practice includes all aspects of licensing, including developing, negotiating, and implementing new licensing agreements, transactions, and branding strategies for both licensors and licensees. In addition, Mr. Kastner helps clients protect their intellectual property through trademark and copyright prosecution and enforcement, as well as through litigation when necessary. His work also includes music licensing, mergers and acquisitions due diligence, anti-piracy and anti-counterfeiting in the broadcast, entertainment and sports industries, and rights clearance issues.

Mr. Kastner received his J.D. from Rutgers University Law School in 1977 and his B.A. from Boston College in 1974. He joins the firm from Bracewell & Giuliani LLP.
