Elliot Dater Joins Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP
On September 4, 2012 by Schnader in CorporateSeptember 4, 2012 – Pittsburgh, PA: Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP has announced that Elliot Dater has joined the Firm as partner in the Business Services Department. Mr. Dater will be located in the Pittsburgh office and represents Israeli companies doing business in the United States and U.S. companies and investors doing business in Israel, as well as emerging growth companies in the technology and medical device industries. His practice focuses on defense, technology and life sciences companies, investors in all stages of private equity financing, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, commercial law, government contracting, and general corporate counseling. Mr. Dater is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law where he co-teaches the course, Law and Entrepreneurship.

Prior to joining Schnader, Mr. Dater built Israeli related practices at two different leading U.S. law firms and represented U.S and Israeli clients in the technology, life science, defense, food and insurance industries. At the first firm, Mr. Dater represented clients in cross border transactions which had an aggregate value of approximately $1.5 billion.
Prior to returning to Pittsburgh in 2002, Mr. Dater spent seven years in Israel, including four years as the partner leading the international and technology practice of a leading Tel Aviv law firm. There, he represented emerging growth companies and investors in venture capital financings and negotiated major cross border transactions for Israeli, American, English, Turkish, and Italian clients in software, telecommunications, semiconductors, medical devices, and life sciences. He also acted as both local issuer’s and underwriter’s counsel on multiple public offerings in the Unites States, United Kingdom, and Germany, and he represented clients in commercial and technology licensing transactions. While living in Israel, Mr. Dater also served as general counsel to two publicly traded technology companies.
Prior to his move to Israel in 1995, Mr. Dater served as counsel to the Government of Israel, Ministry of Defense, Mission to the United States, in New York. He negotiated multi-year research and development contracts for various branches of the Israel Defense Forces. He began his legal career in Pittsburgh with the firm of Berkman Russlander Pohl Lieber & Engel, predecessor to the Klett Rooney firm. In addition to his academic degrees, he was a visiting graduate student at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1983 and 1984 and is fluent in Hebrew.
