December 9, 2005 – Philadelphia, PA – Five Schnader attorneys were recently named ‘Pennsylvania Rising Stars’ by the publishers of Law & Politics and Super Lawyers.  The special supplement, which was included in the December 2005 issue of Philadelphia Magazine, recognized the following attorneys for outstanding achievement in their respective practice areas: Michael Barrie (bankruptcy law), Meredith Brennan (family law), Bruce Merenstein (appellate law), Keith Whitson (business litigation), and Robert Williams (business litigation).

“It is an honor to have our firm and these individuals recognized for their exceptional talent and outstanding professional achievements,” said Chairman Ralph Wellington.  “Schnader’s ‘Rising Stars’ represent our firm’s commitment to excellence and dedication to providing exceptional legal counsel to our clients, and on behalf of the entire firm, I’d like to congratulate each of them for this notable accomplishment.”

The ‘Rising Stars’ supplement is an annual publication of Law & Politics and Super Lawyers.  First published in Minnesota in 1998 to recognize the state’s top up-and-coming attorneys, ‘Rising Stars’ are now honored annually in Pennsylvania, as well as several additional states and/or regions, including: Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, Ohio, Southern California, Texas and Washington.  To determine who is chosen as a ‘Rising Star,’ Law & Politics solicits nominations from the publication’s most recent group of ‘Super Lawyers’ – attorneys licensed to practice 5 years or more, who are recognized as the top in their field or practice group through recommendations of their peers and extensive, independent research.  The ‘Super Lawyers’ are asked to nominate attorneys who are either 40 or under or who have been practicing 10 or fewer years, who they have personally observed in action – whether as opposing counsel or co-counsel, or through other first-hand courtroom observation – and who they believe showcase exceptional legal skill and talent.  Upon receiving the nominations, Law & Politics conducts independent research of each candidate; attorney-led research teams review the credentials of potential Rising Stars and assigns points based on a set of defined evaluation criteria. The research staff also confirms that nominees are properly licensed, in good standing with the state licensing agency, and, when possible, that they have no history of disciplinary action that would warrant removal from the list.
