March 2, 2010 – San Francisco, CA: Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP is pleased to announce that George H. Kalikman has been named Managing Partner of the Firm’s San Francisco office.  He will succeed Leo J. Murphy, who has successfully led the office for the past 9 years.

“We could not be more pleased that George has accepted the role of Managing Partner,” said David Smith, Chairman of Schnader.  “I would like to thank Leo for his leadership, insight and simple hard work during his time as Managing Partner.  Under his leadership, the San Francisco office experienced strategic growth both in professional personnel and in the capacity to service our clients’ varied needs and he leaves the San Francisco office stronger as a result of his efforts.”

Mr. Kalikman intends to work with his colleagues in the San Francisco office to expand certain of the office’s existing practice areas, including financial restructuring and bankruptcy, intellectual property litigation, and labor and employment. He will also seek to add complementary practices and pursue high level talent, maintaining Schnader’s tradition of interoffice collaboration among the firm’s New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Washington D.C., and Delaware offices.  “I appreciate being asked to undertake this responsibility and I’m excited about what we can achieve in continuing to grow the San Francisco office,” Kalikman said.

Since joining Schnader at the beginning of 2009, Mr. Kalikman has led major engagements in financial restructuring and bankruptcy, attracting key clients to the firm and taking advantage of the preexisting depth and talent the firm’s San Francisco office had in these areas.  “During the past year, I’ve had an opportunity to work closely with most of my colleagues in the San Francisco office, and many of the lawyers in Schnader’s other offices, particularly in New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Washington, D.C.  Their consistent commitment to providing quality service to our clients has been impressive and inspiring.”

Mr. Kalikman represents money center banks, investment banks, hedge funds, private equity and venture capital investors, real estate investors, and other secured and unsecured creditors in financial restructuring, bankruptcy, workouts, secured creditor enforcement, commercial financing, loan documentation, secured transactions, and other transactional and litigation matters.  In addition to his representation of clients in out-of-court workouts and restructurings, Mr. Kalikman has represented creditors, creditors’ committees, debtors, and prospective asset purchasers in all aspects of chapter 11 bankruptcy cases.  In 2010, he was listed in Best Lawyers in America in the area of bankruptcy and creditor-debtor rights law, and he has been recognized every year as a “Northern California Super Lawyer” by the publishers of Law & Politics for creditors’ rights and bankruptcy.  Mr. Kalikman is a 1978 graduate of the University of California, Hastings College of the Law; he graduated from Harvard College, cum laude, in 1975.
