The article discussed Energy Transfer Equity LP’s decision to walk away from a $38 billion merger with The Williams Cos. Inc. after ETE’s counsel could not provide a crucial tax opinion. Ms. Harmon noted that the volatility in the energy market (caused by slumping oil prices) will make potential merger partners more cautious of such closing conditions in the future.
