Judge Lewis is among the seventh generation of a Pittsburgh family that traces its roots to the abolitionist Lewis Woodson. Examining Woodson’s signature in the bank’s deposit ledger, Judge Lewis conjectured that the account was set up to provide funds and cover for Woodson’s work with the Underground Railroad.
