The Honorable Timothy K. Lewis has been appointed to the national Board of Directors of the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy (also known as ACS). The organization promotes the vitality of the U.S. Constitution and the fundamental values it expresses: individual rights and liberties, genuine equality, access to justice, democracy and the rule of law. The Board consists of both private practice and corporate attorneys, several prominent professors of law, advocates from the nonprofit sector, and two student board members from Northwestern University School of Law and Howard Law School.
Judge Lewis has long been an advocate of increasing access to justice and defending the rule of law. He is co-chair of the National Committee on the Right to Counsel, a bipartisan committee established by the National Legal Aid and Defender Association and the Constitution Project to review the indigent defense system throughout the nation and create consensus recommendations for necessary reforms. He also serves on the board of the Constitution Project, a think-tank which brings policy experts and legal practitioners together to find solutions to difficult constitutional challenges, and he speaks throughout the country on issues of equality, diversity and inclusion.
