Hon. Timothy K. Lewis Recognized as one of the “Diverse Attorneys of the Year”
On April 21, 2015 by Schnader in Alternative Dispute ResolutionSchnader is pleased to announce that Hon. Timothy Lewis has been selected by The Legal Intelligencer as one of the publication’s “Diverse Attorneys of the Year.” The award, given bi-annually, recognizes a group of outstanding minority attorneys from across Pennsylvania based on their contributions to the legal profession. Winners will be profiled in a special Diversity supplement on June 2, and honored at a celebratory event in Philadelphia.
Judge Lewis assisted Governor Wolf and his team with discerning and developing elements of the recently-announced Moratorium on the Death Penalty in Pennsylvania. In his role, Judge Lewis prepared an objective legal analysis of a Pennsylvania governor’s constitutional authority to impose a moratorium on the death penalty, and found that, “… if a governor believed it would be in the interests of the Commonwealth to issue a moratorium by granting reprieves for the purpose of studying the fairness and effectiveness of the administration of the death penalty, this would be a proper exercise of his or her authority under the Pennsylvania Constitution.” After the moratorium was announced, Judge Lewis also offered a statement of support.
His legal practice focuses on alternative dispute resolution, including arbitration, mediation, and other forms of settlement. He is co-chair of the firm’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice Group; a Fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators; a board member of the American Arbitration Association; and a member of the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution and its Panel of Distinguished Neutrals. Judge Lewis was recognized as the Best Lawyers‘ 2015 “Lawyer of the Year” in arbitration for Washington, D.C.
