Judge Lewis Joins Judge Abner Mikva in Calling for Reform of the Judicial Nominee Process

On November 18, 2010 by Schnader in Appellate

Judge Timothy Lewis, co-chair of Schnader’s Appellate Practice Group, co-authored an op-ed with Judge Abner Mikva, former chief judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia circuit, which was published by the website Politico.com on November 18. The article, “Let’s Fix Judicial Nominee Process,” noted that when the U.S. Senate left for the Fall 2010 election recess, it had confirmed just one of the 48 pending judicial nominees and this failure to consider nominations has exacerbated a vacancy crisis for the nation’s federal courts. The article emphasized that such obstruction undermines the democratic process and urged the Senate to end the excessive politicization of the confirmation process.
