Keith E. Whitson published an article, “Protection from Abuse Project Needs Volunteers,” in the June 3, 2022, edition of Lawyers Journal, the journal of the Allegheny County Bar Association.
The National Commission on COVID-19 and Criminal Justice estimates that domestic violence incidents in the U.S. increased by 8.1% following the imposition of lockdown orders during the 2020 pandemic. The Protection from Abuse project is administered by Neighborhood Legal Services (NLS). Seasoned NLS attorneys are always available to provide practical guidance to pro bono attorneys to serve their community and provide victims of domestic violence with vital aid in their time of need. NLS has a strong training, shadowing and mentoring program to help guide volunteers and make sure they feel comfortable and prepared.
