Robert Collings Quoted in Inside Climate News
On July 27, 2016 by Schnader in EnvironmentalEnergy & Environmental Practice Group Co-chair Robert L. Collings was quoted in the article “Escalating Battle Over Exxon Investigation Subpoenas Could End Up in Court,” published by Inside Climate News on July 20, 2016. The article discusses subpoenas served on two state attorneys general and eight nongovernmental advocacy groups by House of Representatives Science Committee Chair Lamar Smith (R-Texas). The subpoenas seek information regarding their investigations of ExxonMobil for alleged efforts to disseminate misinformation about client change. Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey has refused to comply with the subpoena, prompting speculation about a potential court battle. Mr. Collings explained that Smith can either negotiate compliance or seek contempt citations, which would require Congressional action.
