Schnader Attorneys Thanked for Supreme Court Amicus Brief

On December 11, 2012 by Schnader in Appellate

On November 16, 2012, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) filed an amicus brief in Maracich v. Spears, U.S. Supreme Court, No. 12-25. In a posting on its Deeplinks blog titled “EFF to U.S. Supreme Court: Limit Release of Driver Info,” EFF summarized its concerns about the violation of the Drivers Privacy Protection Act (DPPA) by class action lawyers who used motor vehicle information to solicit clients to sue local car dealers. In the amicus brief, EFF warns that allowing lawyers the ability to use the litigation exception in the DPPA for purposes of solicitation creates an enormous loophole that the DPPA was intended to protect against. In its blog post, EFF thanked the work of Schnader attorneys Arlene Fickler and John R. Timmer who wrote the brief.
