Schnader Honored by Philadelphia VIP for Pro Bono Work
On March 10, 2010 by Schnader in LitigationOn March 10, 2010, Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP was recognized by Philadelphia VIP at the organization’s annual awards ceremony honoring its volunteers. The event, which was held this year in the Ceremonial Courtroom in Philadelphia’s City Hall and attended by more than 150 volunteers, recognizes outstanding service provided by individuals, firms and corporations during the past year.
Schnader was honored with a Chancellor’s Award, which is presented to firms with at least 10% of the attorneys in their Philadelphia office participating in Philadelphia VIP programs. Photos of the event are available on Schnader’s Facebook page. The Firm was recognized with a VIP Chancellor’s Award in 2008 and 2009 as well.
Philadelphia VIP is dedicated to providing indigent individuals equal access to the legal system in civil matters by referring them to volunteer lawyers, paralegals, and others who provide legal services free of charge. VIP handles any civil matter that is non-fee generating and for which there is no right to counsel. The caseload includes: child support, employment/wage claims, tax issues, disability, landlord/tenant appeals, public housing evictions, probate, tangled title, consumer debt, litigation defense, child custody, adoption/guardianship, special education and school discipline, name change, and immigration issues. Many times, VIP is the agency of last resort for many low-income individuals and families who face critical legal problems that affect their basic needs.
