FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PHILADELPHIA, PA (January 1, 2005) – Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP partner Nancy Winkelman has been appointed co-chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Professional Responsibility Committee for 2005.
Ms. Winkelman also serves, by appointment, as an investigator for the Association’s Commission on Judicial Selection and is a past co-chair of the organization’s Appellate Courts Committee.
Ms. Winkelman co-chairs Schnader’s Appellate Practice Group. She concentrates her practice on federal and state appellate litigation. She has handled appeals in a variety of substantive areas, and in a number of appellate courts, including presenting argument in the U.S. Supreme Court in a civil rights case involving prisoners’ exhaustion of administrative remedies. In addition to her active appellate practice, Ms. Winkelman teaches appellate advocacy at the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
Recently, Ms. Winkelman became only the ninth lawyer – and the first woman – to be selected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers from the Third Circuit region (Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and the Virgin Islands). Earlier this year, she received the Burton Award for Legal Achievement, which was presented to only 20 lawyers in the top 500 largest law firms in the U.S. for excellence in legal writing.
