Schnader Welcomes New Associates

September 18, 2008 – Philadelphia, PA: Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP is pleased to announce that eleven new associates have joined the firm; eight new attorneys will be resident in the Philadelphia office, two new attorneys will be resident in the New York office, and one new attorney will be resident in the Washington, D.C. office.

Lateral Hires

Adam L. Fernandez joined the firm as an associate in Schnader’s Tax & Wealth Management Department, Tax and Business Planning Practice Group, resident in the Philadelphia office. Mr. Fernandez previously practiced with Hamburg, Rubin, Mullin, Maxwell & Lupin, P.C., in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, where he worked since graduating from law school in 2003. His expertise is in the corporate and estate and gift tax area, and his experience includes evaluating the tax consequences of real estate and business asset transactions; counseling clients about asset protection and estate planning; handling gift, estate and inheritance tax issues; and state and federal tax appeals. He has also previously served as the clerk to the Honorable Kevin A. Hess of the Court of Common Pleas for Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Mr. Fernandez is a graduate of the Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University (J.D. – May, 2003), where he was Senior Editor of the Penn State International Law Review. He spent a semester at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, University of London, in 2003; and received his LL.M. in Taxation (December, 2005) from Villanova University School of Law. He graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in History from Gettysburg College. Law & Politics recognized Adam as a “Rising Star” in its December 2006 and 2007 editions.

Nilam A. Sanghvi joined the Firm as an associate in our Litigation Services Department resident in the Philadelphia office. Before joining Schnader, she was an antitrust, appellate and litigation associate in law firms in Washington, D.C. and in New York, where she supervised teams of teams of associates, staff attorneys, legal assistants and staff. She also served on Summer Associate and Recruiting Committees, as a coordinator of litigation and appellate summer associate work, and as a mentor to summer associates and new hires. Ms. Sanghvi has also had two judicial clerkships. The first, just after law school, was with the Honorable William B. Shubb of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California, and the most recent was with the Honorable Thomas L. Ambro of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. She is a cum laude graduate of Georgetown University Law Center (J.D. – 2002), where she was the Administrative Editor of the American Criminal Law Review. She received her B.A. in Political Science in 1999 from the Columbia College of Columbia University.

Christine F. Cushman joined the Firm as an associate resident in our Philadelphia office. She will practice as a member of the Firm’s Tax and Wealth Management Department, Tax and Business Planning Group, as well as the Trusts and Estates Practice Group. She came to Schnader from Morgan Lewis & Bockius, LLP, in Philadelphia, where she was an associate in the employee benefits practice group from October 2003 until joining Schnader. Ms. Cushman has experience in employee benefits, ERISA, tax, executive compensation, securities and corporate matters. Additionally, she has assisted pro bono clients in obtaining tax exempt status as 501(c)(3) organizations. Ms. Cushman earned her J.D. in 2001 from the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, where she was the Articles and Notes Editor of the Texas International Law Journal. She went on to earn an LL.M. in Tax from New York University School of Law in 2002. Thereafter, she clerked for the Honorable Michael Thornton of the United States Tax Court. Her undergraduate work was at Louisiana Tech University, where she graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in English, and at Louisiana State University, where she did graduate work in Higher Education Administration and Journalism.

Cynthia A. Murray joined Schnader as an associate in the Litigation Services Department, resident in our New York office. Ms. Murray was previously a litigation associate with King & Spalding LLP in New York since her graduation from law school in 2003. She has broad-based experience in complex commercial litigation, including securities, professional liability, bankruptcy, healthcare, white collar, and contract disputes. Ms. Murray received her J.D. cum laude from St. John’s University School of Law in 2003, where she also served as Notes and Comments Editor of the St. John’s Law Review. She graduated with a B.A. in International Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1994.

Eric Boden joined Schnader as an associate in the Litigation Services Department, resident in the New York office. He was previously with McDermott Will & Emery LLP, where he was a litigation associate from 2006 to the present. His experience includes complex commercial litigation and intellectual property litigation. Mr. Boden earned his J.D. in 2006 from Wake Forest University School of Law, where he was Editor of the Wake Forest Intellectual Property Journal. He obtained a B.A. in Government from Cornell University in 1999. After graduating from Cornell, he served as a Commissioned Officer in the United States Navy from 1999 to 2003.

New Associates

Rebecca Lacher joins the Firm’s Litigation Services Department, resident in the Philadelphia office. Ms. Lacher is a 2006 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she was Associate Editor of the Journal of Labor and Employment Law. She graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Sociology from Brandeis University, where she was awarded Highest Honors in her major. During her time at Brandeis she was recognized as a Presidential Scholar. Ms. Lacher clerked for the Honorable J. William Ditter, Jr., United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, from August 2006 to August 2008, and was a summer associate in our Philadelphia office in 2005.

Peter Colonna-Romano joins the Firm’s Litigation Services Department, resident in the Philadelphia office. He is a 2008 cum laude graduate of Rutgers University School of Law, where he was a member of the Rutgers Journal of Law and Public Policy. He received a B.A. in History from George Washington University in 2001. In the summer of 2006, he served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Mary L. Cooper, United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. He was a summer associate in our Philadelphia office in 2007.

Julie E. Randolph joins the Firm’s Litigation Services Department, resident in the Philadelphia office. She is a 2008 graduate of New York University School of Law, and graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Chemistry and a B.A. in Art Conservation from the University of Delaware in 1997, where she was recognized as a Eugene DuPont Memorial Scholar and was the recipient of a full academic scholarship. After her undergraduate studies and prior to attending law school, she obtained her M.S. in Art Conservation from Delaware, serving as a Fellow in the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation. She was a summer associate in our Philadelphia office in 2007.

Fred W. Hoensch joins the Firm’s Business Services Department in the Bankruptcy Practice Group, resident in the Philadelphia office. He is a 2008 graduate of Temple University Beasley School of Law, where he was a member of the Temple Law Review. He graduated cum laude with a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in Political Science and History. In the summer of 2006, he served as a judicial intern for the Honorable James Murray Lynn, Court of Common Pleas, Civil Trial Division, in Philadelphia. He was a summer associate in our Philadelphia office in 2007.

Marla K. Conley joined the Firm’s Tax & Wealth Management Department in the Tax and Business Planning Practice Group, resident in the Philadelphia office. She is a 2008 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Law and Social Change. She also has earned an A.B. from Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. In the summer of 2006, Ms. Conley was an intern for the American Bar Association in Washington, D.C., assisting in research and other projects for the ABA’s Center on Children and the Law. She was a summer associate in our Philadelphia office in 2007.

Claudine E.A. Wilson joined the Firm’s Litigation Services Department and the Intellectual Property Practice Group, resident in our Washington, D.C. office. She is a 2008 graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and graduated, cum laude, with a B.S. in Journalism from the University of Florida in 2005, where she was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society and a recipient of a Florida Academic Scholarship which provided for 100 percent of her tuition expenses.  While attending law school, she served as a legal intern in the Anti-Piracy Division of the Recording Industry Association of America.  Ms. Wilson was a summer associate in our Washington, D.C. office in 2007.
