Schnader Welcomes Two New Partners to the Firm’s San Francisco Office

January 16, 2009 – San Francisco, CA: Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP is pleased to announce that two new partners have joined the Firm’s San Francisco office: George H. Kalikman, who will be a member of the Business Services Department, as well as the Bankruptcy, Workout and Business Reorganization, Corporate, and Financial Services practice groups; and, Michael M. Carlson, who will be a member of the Litigation Services Department, as well as the Intellectual Property practice group.

Mr. Kalikman has an active practice representing public and private companies, money center banks, investment banks, hedge funds, private equity and venture capital investors, real estate investors, and other secured and unsecured creditors in financial restructuring, bankruptcy, workouts, secured creditor enforcement, commercial financing, loan documentation, secured transactions, and other transactional and litigation matters. He has also represented numerous Fortune 500 companies and major European, Latin American, and Pacific Rim businesses engaged in diverse industries including financial services, real estate development, telecommunications, information technology, manufacturing, music and entertainment, resort and hospitality, construction, oil and gas, agriculture, health care, and insurance. He has been consistently recognized as a “Northern California Super Lawyer” by the publishers of Law & Politics for creditors’ rights and bankruptcy, and prior to joining Schnader, Mr. Kalikman served as the managing partner of the San Francisco office of Liner Yankelevitz Sunshine & Regenstreif LLP. Mr. Kalikman is a 1978 graduate of the University of California, Hastings College of the Law; he graduated from Harvard College, cum laude, with an A.B. in 1975.

Mr. Carlson is experienced in many areas of commercial litigation, with particular expertise in patent infringement and other intellectual property litigation. He has federal and state trial experience, has argued cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and several districts of the California Court of Appeal, and has been involved in appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the California Supreme Court. His representations of companies in patent infringement disputes have included companies selling semiconductor manufacturing equipment, semiconductors, medical devices, and consumer products, as well as biotech companies. Additionally, Mr. Carlson has represented clients in trade secret cases, breach of contract and licensing disputes, consumer fraud and false advertising class actions, real estate disputes and insurance recovery actions. Before joining Schnader, Mr. Carlson was a partner with Liner Yankelevitz Sunshine & Regenstreif LLP, and also previously served as the managing partner of the Palo Alto, California office of Morrison & Foerster, LLP from 1997 through 2000, where he was a partner from 1985 through 2007. Mr. Carlson has been consistently recognized as a “Northern California Super Lawyer” by the publishers of Law & Politics, and was recognized as one of “Silicon Valley’s Top Attorneys” by San Jose Magazine in 2005 and 2006. Mr. Carlson graduated from the Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California, Berkeley in 1979, where he served as an Associate Editor of the California Law Review and was a member of the Order of the Coif. He graduated with highest honors from Southern Methodist University in 1975, with a B.A. in Economics and Political Science.
