October 19, 2007 – Philadelphia, PA: Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP is pleased to announce that J. Denny Shupe of its Philadelphia office has been appointed chair of the Litigation Services Department and John K. Gisleson of its Pittsburgh office has been appointed vice-chair. Shupe and Gisleson will be replacing Samuel Silver and Jennifer DuFault James, respectively. Mr. Silver will be playing a different role within the Firm, having been elected to the Firm’s Executive Committee recently, and both Mr. Silver and Ms. DuFault James will continue to play active roles in the Litigation Services Department, which is Schnader’s largest department with more than 100 attorneys.

Mr. Shupe noted that he is looking forward to his new position. “Sam and Jennifer were a dynamic team that allowed the department to thrive, and I appreciate the effort and time they have put in to make Schnader and its Litigation Services Department successful,” he said. “I am excited to be able to work with John and continue to build upon their foundation of growth and success, while also bringing a fresh vision, energy, and strategic direction to the department. Schnader is known for excellence in trial and appellate courtrooms, and that core strength positions us well for the future.”
Mr. Shupe, who previously chaired the Firm’s Aviation and Products Liability practice groups, is one of Schnader’s leading aviation and product liability trial lawyers, representing national and international clients and litigating cases throughout the United States. He is an elected member of the International Association of Defense Counsel, and has been selected as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer since 2004. A retired U.S. Air Force command pilot, Mr. Shupe served more than 23 years in the active and reserve forces and has more than 4,400 hours of flight time on a variety of jet aircraft. He presently serves as chair of the Aerospace Law Committee for the Defense Research Institute, a position he has held since 2006. An active member of the United Service Organizations (USO) of Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey – also known as the Liberty USO – Mr. Shupe has served on the Board of Directors for the organization since 1991, and was chairman of the board from 2001-2004. Additionally, he served as the national chair for the United Service Organizations (USO) Affiliate Council in 2003-2005, and again in 2006-2007.
