On September 13, 2013 by Schnader in Litigation

The Legal Intelligencer‘s September 12, 2013 article “More Than a Pretty Face, Diversity Is Needed for Global Growth” highlighted the presentations at Schnader and the Philadelphia Bar Association’s September 10, 2013 National Roundtable on Diversity in the Legal Profession.

At the event, chief legal officers, law firm managing partners and diversity thought-leaders from across the country discussed the business case for diversity and inclusion, benchmarks to measure success, cultural competency, subtle and unconscious bias, and the best practices for the retention and advancement of women and diverse attorneys.

The article quoted Robert Grey, a partner at Hunton & Williams  in Richmond, Va., suggested, “Because this entire profession is based on relationships,” a method for fostering diverse leadership down the road would be to start taking young minority associates and pairing them with midlevel in-house counsel for a year to cement ties between them and the companies that will hand out business.”

Albert S. Dandridge, III, partner and chief diversity officer at Schnader and Naomi McLaurin, director of diversity for the Philadelphia Bar Association led the National Roundtable on Diversity in the Legal Profession. A full run-down of the day can be found here.
