UPS Chief Legal and Compliance Officer Credits Mentor William H. Brown, III
On March 11, 2013 by Schnader in Labor and EmploymentDuring her keynote at the Philadelphia Bar Association’s March 11, 2013 Quarterly Meeting & Luncheon, UPS Senior Vice President of Legal, Compliance, Audit & Public Affairs, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary Teri Plummer McClure made special mention of her mentor, Schnader Senior Partner William H. Brown, III.
As reported in The Legal Intelligencer’s article, “Despite Poor Economy, UPS GC Calls forĀ Focus on Diversity” Ms. McClure said the biggest lesson she learned from Mr. Brown was to continue to speak up even though people would say of him, “‘I know Bill. I know what he’s going to say.'”
Mr. Brown, who as chairman of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission investigated a complaint made by UPS employees and eventually was hired to be UPS’s first black director, was a mentor to McClure when she was first hired as a labor and employment attorney at UPS in 1995, Ms. McClure said.
