Wellington Comments on Heinz Settlement
On October 25, 2005 by Schnader in LitigationRalph Wellington was quoted in an article in The Philadelphia Inquirer on October 25, 2005, “Heinz suit settled for $15 million.” The article reported on the $15 million settlement of the wrongful-death lawsuit filed by Teresa Heinz Kerry after the 1991 midair collision resulting in the death of her first husband, U.S. Sen. John Heinz. “Evidence would have shown that Sun pilots weren’t responsible for the crash had the case gone to trial,” said Ralph, attorney for Sun Co., of Philadelphia. Ralph stated that the original case was settled because “everyone agreed to a resolution they thought was fair.” He called the “settlement value” of the case “appropriate” and said “this was not a ‘message’settlement.”
