Wietrzychowski Quoted in “Timing is Everything in the Waltz of a Septa Strike”
On November 2, 2016 by Schnader in Labor and EmploymentLabor and Employment Practice Group co-chair Michael J. Wietrzychowski was quoted in “Timing is everything in the waltz of a SEPTA strike,” published in The Philadelphia Inquirer on November 1, 2016.
The article discussed the timing of union strikes as a strategic tool; in this case, Transit Workers Union Local 234 stuck to its deadline and went on strike eight days before a national election.
“If the union grants an extension, management might take it as a signal that the union doesn’t have the strength,” said Mr. Wietrzychowski. “A firm deadline is a strong signal that the union means business.”
