Media Law ConferenceOn September 27, 2006 by Schnader
Carl Solano, chair of our First Amendment, Defamation and Communications Practice, was a principal participant in the annual Media Law Conference in Alexandria, Virginia on September 27-29, 2006. The conference was presented jointly by the National Association of Broadcasters, Newspaper Association of America and Media Law Resource Center. Jennifer DuFault James also attended the conference, which hosted the in-house counsel from the major media companies throughout the United States, as well as their principal outside counsel. A substantial portion of the conference is devoted to breakout sessions among media counsel to discuss strategy and legal developments in significant areas of media law. Those sessions are run by teams consisting of one in-house lawyer and one outside lawyer. Carl was one of only five outside lawyers nationwide asked to run sessions on defamation law; he did so with in-house counsel from the New York Daily News.
The October 2006 edition of MLRC MediaLawLetter, a publication distributed to in-house counsel of media companies across the country, recognized Schnader for its sponsorship of the conference. The publication also acknowledged Carl for serving as a facilitator at the event.
