New Developments in Labor & Employment Law for Colleges and Universities

On November 3, 2016 by Schnader

Schnader hosted the seminar “New Developments in Labor & Employment Law for Colleges and Universities” at the firm’s Philadelphia office on Thursday, November 3, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Partners Karen Baillie and Jo Bennett were present.

There have been major changes to the landscape of employment law. On May 18, the U.S. Department of Labor issued its final rules regarding overtime exemption changes, more than doubling the minimum salary required to classify workers as exempt. On August 23, the National Labor Relations Board ruled that graduate students at private institutions have the right to unionize. And on April 17, Governor Tom Wolf signed Senate Bill 3 into law, making Pennsylvania the 24th state to legalize medical marijuana.
