Responding to Hate Crimes and Bias Incidents in the Era of Coronavirus

Randall P. Hsia, Co-Chair of Schnader’s Criminal Defense Practice Group and the Internal Investigations, Ethics and Compliance Practice Group, spoke about “Responding to Hate Crimes and Bias Incidents in the Era of Coronavirus,” for a virtual event presented by the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Pennsylvania (“APABA-PA”) and the Philadelphia Bar Association. This program, offered for CLE/CJE credit, took place on May 19, 2020.

The event focused on describing what conduct may qualify as a hate crime, a bias incident with a civil remedy, or as unlawful discrimination. Representatives from law enforcement, government agencies, and community organizations explained the process to report incidents and seek help, and community leaders addressed what is happening within their communities, and what changes are needed to better serve victims and prevent further harm.
