Schnader Attorneys Presented Webinar on “The Ins and Outs of Dietary Supplement Regulation and Litigation”

On September 23, 2013 by Schnader

Schnader attorneys Saul Wilensky, Matthew J. Kelly Jr. and Sara A. Aliabadi presented the webinar “The Ins and Outs of Dietary Supplement Regulation and Litigation” on October 23, 2013 for the International Association of Defense Council (IADC) Product Liability Committee. The program offered an overview of the regulatory landscape for the dietary supplement industry and pointed out some common pitfalls facing those who handle litigation involving those products. Pursuant to the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA), dietary supplements are placed under the watch of the FDA as a “food” as opposed to a “drug.” This results in a mostly self-regulated industry which can create challenges for consequent product liability claims. The speakers also offered tips on defending against such product liability claims.
