Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP is proudly hosted a series of three lunch and learn sessions entitled “Halacha, Shaariah, and the State: The Relationship Between Religious and “Secular” Law.” The sessions were co-taught by Rabbi Adam Zeff and Professor Khalid Yahya Blankinship.
Rabbi Adam Zeff has served the Germantown Jewish Centre community since 2002, now as its Senior Rabbi. Professor Blankenship is professor of religion at Temple University and is Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Religion. He has lived and traveled widely in the Middle East, including eleven years in Egypt and one year in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, and thus offers his unique knowledge and perspective of Muslim law and tradition
In February, they were joined by S.A. Ibrahim, CEO of Radian Group, Inc. for an open conversation on issues of Jewish Muslim relations. Mr. Ibrahim holds an M.B.A. in Finance from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a B.E. in Engineering from Osmania University in India.
The sessions were held on the first Wednesday of the month, from 12:15 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. A dairy lunch is provided. Upcoming topics were:
- January 4: Money & Finance (loans, giving to the poor, tzedaka/zakat);
- February 1: Open Conversation: Rabbi Zeff, Professor Blankinship and S.A. Ibrahim; and,
- March 7: Just War (what qualifies, against whom).
