This seminar was a two-hour program for labor and employment & human resources professionals.
The collapse of the Democratic majority in the House derailed the Obama Administration’s plans to rebalance the power structure in America’s workplaces through the legislative process. Undaunted, the Administration has shifted its tactics, seeking to accomplish many of the same goals by promulgating new rules at the administrative agency level and by shifting enforcement priorities. Most, but by no means all, of the action has been in the agencies that comprise the most visible arms of the U.S. Department of Labor (“DOL”), so this presentation will focus largely on these agencies. Before turning to the DOL, however, brief mention will be made of important developments at the National Labor Relations Board (“NLRB”) affecting all employers, as well as initiatives on the immigration front.
