Appellate Rule Amendments Add New Class of Cases to Those Covered by Longer Appeal Periods

Instead of the usual 30-day appeal period, a 60-day period applies when the United States, a federal officer, or federal agency is a party to a case. Recent amendments to the Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure have expanded this class of matters to include U.S. officers or employees who have been sued in their individual capacity.
